A My Tomorrow result is a simplified illustration using your inputs and fixed assumptions. It estimates a super balance, then divides that balance into a weekly amount to age 90. It is not a forecast, a complete retirement plan or a test of whether you can afford to retire.
See what your super could become in under 60 seconds.
How we calculate your tomorrow
The calculation uses your date of birth, annual income, current super balance and chosen retirement age. Current age is counted in completed years; the difference between that age and your chosen retirement age gives the projection period.
The model holds annual income and contributions constant. It does not forecast pay rises, career breaks, unemployment or changes in working hours.
Changing an input explores a different scenario. It does not establish that the scenario is achievable, affordable or permitted under super access rules.
Simple assumptions make scenarios easier to explore. Actual outcomes will differ.
Model assumptions before retirement
My Tomorrow assumes employer contributions equal 12% of the annual income entered, then deducts 15% contribution tax. It does not check qualifying earnings, employer-payment limits, contribution caps or additional tax.
A fixed 3.5% annual net real growth assumption is applied to the opening balance each year. “Real” means after inflation. This is a model assumption, not a forecast of your fund’s return; inflation, fees, insurance and tax on earnings are not separately calculated.
The net annual contribution is added at year-end, and the process repeats for the remaining whole years. The projected balance is rounded to the nearest dollar. Actual contributions usually arrive at different times.
How the weekly amount is calculated
A weekly illustration is calculated by dividing the projected balance by the years from your chosen retirement age to 90, then by 52 weeks.
For example, a $260,000 balance spread from age 65 to 90 gives $200 a week: $260,000 ÷ 25 ÷ 52. This is an arithmetic example, not a recommended balance or income.
This step includes no Age Pension, other income, investment returns during retirement, fees or tax. Age 90 is a fixed modelling endpoint, not a prediction of your lifespan. The result is not a sustainable withdrawal rate or a promise your money will last.
What the result cannot tell you
Your result does not assess household spending, housing, debts, a partner’s resources, other assets or personal tax. It is not designed to value defined benefit entitlements.
Modelling a retirement age does not establish when you can access super. Our retirement age in Australia guide explains the separate access rules.
The next question is how much retirement income you may need. That starts with the life you want to fund, rather than someone else’s balance.

Frequently asked questions
How are extra weekly contributions calculated?
Generally, the model multiplies the selected weekly amount by 52, deducts 15% contribution tax and adds the net amount to each annual contribution. It then repeats the same projection. The difference from the base balance is the illustrated extra amount at retirement.
How should I interpret the 3.5% assumption?
The 3.5% is a fixed net real assumption used by this tool. It is not a quoted fund return, an official recommended rate or a guaranteed outcome. The calculation does not simulate market ups and downs or separately estimate future inflation.
Can another calculator give a different result?
Yes, calculators can use different returns, inflation, fees, contribution timing and retirement-income methods. Some include Age Pension or a partner’s finances. Compare the assumptions and what is included before comparing the headline numbers.
Does the result tell me when I should retire?
No. It does not assess your full circumstances or recommend a retirement age, fund, investment or contribution strategy. The age you enter is a scenario input. The result is general information, not personal financial advice.
How can I get a simple retirement illustration?
It starts with your current age, income, super balance and an age you want to explore. The My Tomorrow Retirement Calculator can help you explore what your super could become. It is a starting point, not a guarantee that your money will last or a recommendation about when to retire.
My Tomorrow is an independent retirement-awareness tool. This is general information, not personal financial advice.
